Doppler Spectrum Measurement Platform for Narrowband V2V Channels

This paper describes the implementation of a Doppler spectrum measurement platform for narrowband frequency-dispersive vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) channels. The is based on continuous-wave (CW) channel sounding approach widely used path-loss and large-scale fading measurements, but whose effectiveness to measure V2V channels not equally known. method implemented using general-purpose hardware in configuration that easy replicate enables partial characterization at fraction cost dedicated sounder. was assessed series field experiments collected empirical data instantaneous spectrum, mean shift, spread, profile, distribution under realistic driving conditions. These were conducted highway scenario near San Luis Potosí, México, two different carrier frequencies, one 760MHz other 2,500MHz. transmitting receiving vehicles moving same direction varying speeds, ranging from 20 130km/h dictated by unpredictable traffic obtained results demonstrate presented spectral identification their signatures relevant road-safety scenarios, such as those involving overtaking maneuvers rapid approaching transmitter receiver opposite direction.
